EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – DILLON COUNTY FIRST STEPS TO SCHOOL READINESS

Job Purpose:  Working with the Dillon County First Steps Board, plans and manages activities related to the implementation of the Board’s strategies to strengthen families, improve children’s health and well-being, improve the quality of child care and early education opportunities, and help transition rising kindergarteners into school.

Essential Duties:

  1. Under the overall direction of the Dillon County First Steps Board, designs and directs the implementation of the Board’s strategies to improve the quality and increase the number of services and programs for early childhood development and education to ensure that children are ready to succeed in school.
  2. Provides leadership and develops policies and priorities to manage the daily operations of the Dillon County First Steps office to include the supervision of other staff and volunteers.
  3. Within the guidelines and financial resources provided by the South Carolina Office of First Steps, develops an annual budget for the approval of the Dillon County First Steps Board.
  4. Seeks additional financial support from public and private sources through grant writing and fund raising opportunities to provide for organizational growth.
  5. Acts as the primary liaison and effective advocate with the South Carolina Office of First Steps and the Regional Fiscal Manager to ensure compliance with fiscal and legislative requirements.
  6. Ensures and facilitates the prompt flow of information between the South Carolina Office of First Steps, the Regional Fiscal Manager, and the Dillon County First Steps Board.
  7. Works closely with the Dillon County First Steps Board to develop the required reports and updates of local needs and resources assessments and evaluation plans to meet the annual requirements of the South Carolina Office of First Steps.
  8. Executes and manages contracts with third parties within the guidelines of the South Carolina Office of First Steps and in accordance with local procedures.
  9. Works closely with other related organizations and with the general public to establish partnerships and seek their support for and awareness of Dillon County First Steps and related activities.

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Non-Profit Management, or related field with a minimum of five years of experience in developing and managing early childhood development programs, to include demonstrated experience with establishing personnel and organizational structure in an early childhood development setting, as well as fiscal management and fundraising.
  2. Excellent organizational, oral, written, financial management, and communication skills.
  3. Knowledge and awareness of local community and willingness to live in the area served or nearby.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel software programs.
  5. Possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred:

  1. Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Non-Profit Management, or related field with a minimum of three years of experience in developing and managing early childhood development programs, to include demonstrated experience with establishing personnel and organizational structure in an early childhood development setting, as well as fiscal management and fundraising.
  2. Ability to serve as an active advocate in the community to strengthen and establish partnerships to raise awareness and support for Dillon County First Steps.
  3. A passion for children and their education and development with a focus on being resourceful and creative.
  4. Ability to articulate program mission and goals and a clear vision for future organizational expansion.
