Join us as we welcome child advocates from across the Palmetto State (Friday, December 8, 2017, 9:00am – 4:00pm at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center) for a day of learning and conversation. Continuing Education Credits through the SC Center for Child Care Career Development and Renewal Credits through the SC Department of Education will be available for all participants.
The day will be highlighted by a pair of powerful keynote speakers in Dr. Walter Gilliam and Dr. Freeman Hrabowski.
Dr. Gilliam is the Director of Yale University’s Edward Zigler Center in Child Development and Social Policy. A professor of psychology, Dr. Gilliam is, perhaps, the nation’s leading authority on the preschool expulsion epidemic. His recent research centers on how the implicit biases of teachers may shape their reactions to classroom behavior.
Dr. Hrabowski has served as President of The University of Maryland, Baltimore County since 1992. His research and publications focus on STEM education, with special emphasis on minority participation and performance. His most recent book, Holding Fast to Dreams: Empowering Youth from the Civil Rights Crusade to STEM Achievement, relates how his experiences with the civil rights movement led him to develop programs promoting educational success in science and technology for African Americans and others.
The day will be rounded out by an expanded lineup of interest sessions highlighting early childhood success stories from around South Carolina.
Registration ($30, including lunch and snacks) has now begun.
We look forward to seeing you on December 8!
